Gundato is right about the reduced risk of a free demo only. I don't know if paying for the full game is a better idea in this case. I'm just worried that it could be bad for the game if a bunch of people come in and pick it up on the free day and then don't buy it when the price rises later. The other thing is that I've already played the demo, so I'm not really that interested in seeing how the game plays with all the features. But if someone wanted to play that demo but wouldn't want to buy it because the price was too high, I'd be more willing to play the full game.
Replying to myself... I think it's clear that Game Pass is not for me. The games I've played have mostly been free (or cheap) to play, and I'm not interested in their review scores. But I know people who love Game Pass, so if I'm ever offered one of those, I'll definitely give it a try.
@Cermelon: I don't know why you're so down on Game Pass. Game Pass lets people who don't have $60+ games to buy into games that they might otherwise only have the luxury of playing for a nominal monthly fee. It's not perfect, of course, but it makes it easier for developers and their fans to get at new games. I'm skeptical that anyone is going to play Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery for 100+ hours in the near future, but if you do, you'll get a free option to buy it at some point.
So, I'm not going to bother that you don't. I just wanted to point out that you were wrong about the Game Pass model, and it would be interesting to see someone who actually owns the game and has played it in its entirety say why they don't think Game Pass is a good model.
Jemma: I'd just like to point out that you're sharing the same opinion that's been expressed by a lot of people: if you're going to buy a game, you should buy it. Game Pass is an interesting model, and I'm not sure it's fair to say that it's not a good model unless you have an example of something that makes you think it's a bad model.
