The develepment in the area was shaped by a succession of wars over the control of this area. First, Anglo-Portuguese wars. As colonials in southern Europe, the English took an interest in the status quo of the old empire. Portugal now sought to assert its claim to this area. Portugal took control from the french. Later wars, and by the time the dutch controlled it again, it was already a colony. It is a clean slate upon which to build future master plans. When slavery was ended and the slave trade prohibited in 1865, the demand for new slaves diminished. With dwindling pressure to expand, there was little need for an empire as the British were in near complete control of the seas. The remaining interest in imperial control move to the north. Russia began to annex the area in the 1890s and soon the United States was engaged in war as well. Once the war was over, the new allies tried to pull the area from the control of Russia. Following the Russian Revolution in 1917, the new communist government lost interest in the area, and the former Soviet Union collapsed. The United States occupation was short-lived. By the 1930s, the rebellion in Spanish, and the colonial allies in Greece and Yugoslavia, had been suppressed. With much cooler heads in Washington, the powers focused on Japan and Germany. However, neither of them had any interest in this area until the outbreak of the second world war, when the British diverted resources to Portugal to help fight the Germans. The Americans took charge of the area until, they also were lured away by a more powerful enemy. This is where the game starts and ends. The player is equipped with a small group of native allies and a few landmarks are selected for early development. Nations, miltary bases and other points of interest are added as the game progresses. It is fun to see the names of the American bases change after WWII as the areas become a part of the French empire. In the late 1930s they become the United States homeland, which is renamed to the Department of America in the Pacific. Every 15 years the new games become available. d2c66b5586
